Episode 5: KB Recalls Her Day
FADE IN:
INTERIOR KB'S HOUSE - DINING ROOM/KITCHEN AREA - NIGHT
KB sits across from her mom (GINA) at the dining room table. Gina is cheerily eating dinner. KB slouches and plays with her food.
GINA
KB sweetie? I've been just dying to know -- how was your first day?
KB sits back and reflects.
KB
Hmmmm. Let's see. How was my first day...?
RIPPLE DISSOLVE TO:
INTERIOR MR. BITTNER'S CLASSROOM / SCHOOL HALLWAY - MORNING (KB'S FLASHBACK)
KB has just bumped into Cassandra.
KB
Sorry.
CASSANDRA
What are you apologizing for, your clumsiness, or your 'sorry' outfit?
Cassandra SLAMS the door in her face. LAUGHTER ECHOES from behind the door.
CLASS Laughing
WIPE TO:
INTERIOR CAFETERIA - DAY (KB'S FLASHBACK)
KB carries her lunch tray away from the food line and looks around for a place to sit. She approaches a table where Cassandra, Mimi, Bibi, and Melanie sit. Seeing KB, Cassandra, Mimi and Bibi quickly spread out.
CASSANDRA
All the empty seats here are taken!
KB turns away and sets down her tray at the table behind Cassandra and her followers. As she sits down...
Cassandra quickly grabs a few ketchup packets off her own tray and tosses them on the seat. KB sits on them with a wet SPLAT!
CASSANDRA (CONT'D)
Now that's what I call accessorizing!
Cassandra, Mimi and Bibi snicker cruelly. Melanie doesn't laugh.
WIPE TO:
INTERIOR LIBRARY - DAY (KB'S FLASHBACK)
KB scans a shelf, looking for a book. (*Note: the ketchup stain on her backside is definitely visible.) Nearby, Mimi and Bibi sit at back-to-back computers, typing furiously. Mimi notices KB, then gets an idea. She types, then presses SEND.
EXTREME CLOSE-UP: BIBI'S SCREEN - Flashing up an INSTANT MESSAGE: "I SO wish we had a camera!"
BIBI - sneakily takes a small, digital camera out of her purse. She quickly types on the computer.
EXTREME CLOSE-UP: MIMI'S SCREEN - "Voila! We've got digital, girlfriend!"
BIBI - snaps a picture of KB's butt - FLASH!
FLASH WIPE TO:
A ROW OF STUDENTS at computers - they look at their screens and LAUGH quietly.
STUDENTS (muffled laughter)
KB - hears the laughter and looks around, confused. She goes to an open computer and sits down in front of it. She logs on and then looks horrified.
ON KB'S COMPUTER SCREEN - A picture of her ketchup-stained backside fills the screen. Underneath it, a caption reads: "KB = KETCHUP BUTT!".
WIPE TO:
INTERIOR SCHOOL HALLWAY - DAY (KB'S FLASHBACK)
ON A LOCKER - A LARGE PIECE OF PAPER WITH THE WORDS "TEACHER'S PET" MARKED ON IT is taped to the locker.
WIDER - KB walks up to the locker - it's hers. Hurt, she rips off the sign and looks around.
KB's POINT OF VIEW - Cassandra, Mimi, Bibi and Melanie quickly turn to face their lockers, trying to hide their laughter.
MR. BITTNER has been watching from his open classroom door. He frowns at Cassandra and her hangers-on.
MR. BITTNER
Girls, what's going on here?
Cassandra, Mimi and Bibi smile back at him innocently.
MIMI AND BIBI (sweetly; in unison)
Nothing, Mr. Bittner.
KB glares back at the girls, then storms off.
RIPPLE DISSOLVE BACK TO:
INTERIOR KB'S HOUSE - DINING ROOM/KITCHEN AREA (PRESENT)
KB smiles sardonically at her mother.

How was my first day? My first day was great. Just great...
